At the recently concluded Grammy Award, Kanye West won his first gospel Grammy, and his first honor from the Recording Academy in eight years, for his “Jesus Is King” album. It is his 22nd career Grammy.
The gospel category was added to the Grammy’s in the year 2015. According to the Grammy committee, the move recognizes “the critical contribution of both songwriters and performers by combining songwriters and artists into the Best Gospel Performance/Song and Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song categories.”
