Topic: God’s Covenant of Success
Text: Joshua 1:8

God’s word is the manual for God’s covenant of success. Success is premised on meditating on God’s word and doing the things written in the word. Success is everyone’s responsibility and decision. Success in life is a function of the wisdom that is available and applied. God’s covenant of success is premised on 3 major principles:

  1. Wisdom: The aim of God instructing Joshua to meditate on the word is to enable him to glean wisdom from the word to make his way prosperous and successful. There is no scarcity of wisdom in the word of God. This wisdom can only be gleaned through meditation of the word and time must be devoted to glean. The application of the wisdom gleaned makes your way prosperous. Proverbs 4:7, Go for wisdom. Ecclesiastes 8:1. Wisdom makes a man’s face shine. Studying and meditating on God’s word builds wisdom. Paul encouraged Timothy in 1 Timothy 4:15 to meditate on the instructions provided in the word of God for his profit to appear.
  2. Discipline: There can be no success in life outside of discipline. In whatever field or endeavour, there can’t be a success without discipline, a man’s gift or grace will be wasted when there is no discipline, the grace will be misused and abused. A gifted man without discipline will end up in destruction just like Samson. 1 Corinthians 9:25 Paul encouraged the Corinthians to be disciplined to remain relevant and avoid getting disqualified. Put yourself under subjection. Discipline is self-imposed restrain. Restrain yourself, all things are lawful but not all things are expedient. Discipline is essential to a successful life and destiny.

Prayer Focus:

  • Father, fill me with wisdom, the spirit of wisdom and understanding.
  • Father, help me to be a man of discipline, a man of self-imposed restraint so that your grace and anointing on my life will not be misused or abused or wasted so that I will not be disqualified after teaching others.
  • Father, I expose myself to you in every area of my weakness and struggles in my life, words, appetite, passion, and desire for pleasure in the name of Jesus.
  • Father, let my way be prosperous and cause me to have good success by the help of your spirit in the mighty name of Jesus.
