Topic: The Newness of Life
Text: Romans 6:4

Therefore, we were buried with him through baptism into death. Just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so, we also should walk in the newness of life.
The newness of life is the life Christ Jesus has called us into and expects us to walk in. The newness of life is not a slogan to chant, but a walk. A life to walk. It is a life to live and a walk of faith. The Christian race is a walk. It is not just a slogan. You are not expected to put a sticker on your car announcing that you are a Christian or to put a badge on your forehead or your shirt to show or indicate that you belong to Christ.

It is the walk, your walk of faith, your walk in the newness of life that determines or shows that you indeed belong to Christ Jesus. In 2 Corinthians 5:17, the Bible says, if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature, old things are passed away. And behold, all things have become new. We walked in the way or after the emotions of the flesh before we met Christ. We obeyed our passions and lust, and we were slaves to the same.
We surrendered ourselves to the lust and to the sins that dominated our lives. Now that we are in Christ Jesus, the word of God says, we are to walk in this newness of life. It must be evident that indeed we have met with Christ as we walk in the newness of life.

A believer, a Christian is not known by the slogans he chants. A believer is not known by the gift he displays or demonstrates. Rather, by the fruits he displays. By their fruits, ye shall know them.
This implies we are to walk in the newness of life, bearing fruits of the Spirit, the fruit of love, the fruit of peace, of joy, the fruit of brotherly kindness and temperance. And these are the fruits we have to bear.

And these are the fruits that indicate that we indeed belong to Christ. Romans 7:5. Look at what the Scripture says: For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit unto death.
When we were in sin, when we were in the flesh, either before we met Christ or even after we met Christ.
Living Carnally as a carnal believer, the Bible says the sinful passions were at work in our members bearing fruits unto death. The fruits we bore were fruits unto death. These works of the flesh are evident in adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions jealousies outbursts of wrath selfish, ambition, dissensions, heresies, envy, murder, drunkenness, rivalries and the like.
The Bible says those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. These were the ways we lived and these were the works that were manifested or revealed or evident in our lives as we walked in the flesh, but now the Bible encourages us to walk in the newness of life. In this new way of life, we are to bring forth the fruits of the Spirit, the works and fruits of righteousness that people see in us and glorify our Father in heaven and want to be like us.

There was a particular point in time when believers in Christ Jesus walked in the newness of life, everybody, every association, every group wanted to relate with the believers in Christ Jesus because they were walking in the newness of life. Not anymore. It is so unfortunate that today even believers who claim to have met the Lord Jesus are walking after the motions of the flesh in carnality and producing the works of death that it becomes very difficult even for outsiders to distinguish or differentiate between Christians and unbelievers.

It is now very difficult because it appears the believers in Christ Jesus have reverted to the old way of life. Walking in the old ways of life and not walking in the newness of life. God wants us to walk in the newness of life.

Emotions of sin operate freely in the man who lives and walks in the flesh. Be reminded also that you can never please God in the flesh. The word of God tells us in Romans 8:8 that it is impossible for a man who lives or walks in the flesh to please the Lord.
If you want to please God, then you must step out of the flesh. Walk in the spirit. Walk in the newness of life. Bring forth fruits worthy of repentance according to the word of John the Baptist.

Bring forth fruit worthy of repentance. Walk in the newness of life, just as we have been baptized with him, symbolizing our death with Christ through baptism. Now that we have been raised to life with him, we should then walk in the newness of life. This is the evidence that indeed we have died with Christ through baptism and that we are raised to work in the newness of life. We need to walk in that newness of life so we can please God with our lives.

Don’t forget, you can never please God in the flesh. You must also know that you do not belong to Christ without his spirit. In Romans 8:9, the Bible says, but you are not in the flesh, but in the spirit if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now, if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. You are not Christ if you don’t have His spirit. The newness of life is not a slogan to chant, but a walk of life. A walk that you must walk, a life that you must live. And we also have said that the emotions of sin work in the man who lives in the flesh. Emotions of sin dominates the life of the man who lives in the flesh.
The Spirit of God on you is your seal, the seal of salvation upon your life and your destiny.
