Topic: Be an Effective witness (Leadership)
Text: Isaiah 55:3-4
Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you— The sure mercies of David. Indeed I have given him as a witness to the people, A leader and commander for the people.
Your responsibility and God’s desire is that you will be a witness to Christ here on earth with your words, actions, attitude, behaviour, and the fruits you bear. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is to make you an effective witness. You are expected to be a leader and a commander. God wants you to be above only and not beneath, the head and not the tail. These are promises of God given in the Old Testament which stand sure and none of God’s word will return to Him void.
Leadership is knowing your destination and taking others along. Where are you going? There are a lot of individuals alive today without a knowledge of where they are going, they do not know what they want from life. They live their lives as it happen per time and day without plans and anticipation. You must have a picture of the place of glory to be able to take others along with you. Leadership is the ability to solve problems. Life is full of problems and challenges. A leader emerges to solve the problems of life or his environment. There was confusion in Israel until Deborah became a leader and solved the problem through her leadership skills. The children of Israel were confronted with a problem called Goliath of Gath and they remained troubled until David emerged at the scene to eliminate Goliath which made the women sing his praise. He who has the solution gets the promotion. There are so many problems around us that God wants you to solve to bring glory to His name. A lot of people create problems rather than solve them. They are the problems that require solutions.
A leader is one around whom growth revolves. He is the nucleus around which growth revolves. You may not be the founder of an organization but you become a leader when people rally around you for meaningful contributions to growth and development. Leadership is the ability to influence others to achieve a worthwhile goal. Everyone has his sphere of influence. Are you positively influencing those around you? God made you a witness and a leader. You must be an influence regardless of the size of the population to achieve a worthwhile goal. As a parent, you are a leader if you can influence your family to achieve a worthwhile goal. The most influential sibling is a leader. You may not be the head of your department but the ability to lead others to achieve a worthwhile goal makes you a leader.
You must understand that leadership becomes possible when you can lead yourself. This is referred to as self-leadership. The ability to get yourself to do what must be done when it must be done in convenience or inconvenience. You cannot lead anyone if you can not lead yourself. You must be in control of your life and destiny. You must be able to discipline yourself. A leader does not wait for an external influence of locus of control to motivate him to do right. No one submits to the leadership of a man who lacks self-control. Lead yourself and lead others well and make God proud of making you a leader and commander.
Prayer Focus
1. Father, help me to be able to be in control of myself, to be self-disciplined, to be in charge of myself and not my lust and appetite.
2. Father, you have made me the head, may I not fall from the position and grace you have placed me.
