Topic: Marriage; God’s Beautiful Idea
Text: Genesis 2:18-25
What did God have in mind when He instituted marriage?
Marriage was God’s idea. He said it is not good for man to be alone. Marriage was instituted by God. It is Heaven’s invention and not man’s or culture’s.
1. To solve the problem of man’s aloneness: Adam was alone in the beautiful garden created by God. Life cannot be lived alone. If you were given the sum of ten billion dollars and asked to live alone in an expansive and beautiful house with every one of your needs met by hitting a button, life would be miserable and frustrating. God intended to cure this problem in Adam which led him to bring Adam a companion. God brought all the animals he had created to Adam to see if he would find a companion among them. Marriage is a choice. It’s your responsibility to choose your partner if he/she agrees with you. Everyone makes his/her choices in life and the choice makes them. You’re a product of your choice. Choosing a life partner is not the responsibility of any pastor, prophet, or parent. These people could guide but the responsibility of choice is solely yours. Adam named all the animals but declined to marry or have a relationship with any one of them. In verse 20, there was no help meet for him. God was in search of a help meet for Adam, likewise Adam. Adam did not choose any of the animals for his help. The choice/decisions made are important but the consequences of the choice made is more important. Carefully make your choice of a life partner because you have to live with the consequences of your choice.
2. To give the necessary help a man requires for his assignment in life: A man with an assignment or a purpose needs help for fulfillment. Everyone has a purpose to fulfill. The choice of a life partner is vital to fulfilling the purpose of God for your life. God gave Adam a garden before a wife. You must know and understand your purpose and assignment before seeking a helper to fulfill the assignment. You don’t need a partner till you have a purpose you need to actualize or fulfill. Marriage is basically for companionship, therefore in your choice, you must ensure it’s someone you are willing and excited to company with and enjoy the rest of your life with. For the married, remain your spouse’s companion. Be present and available for your spouse. God is bringing you or has brought you together to be each other’s companion, to solve the problem of aloneness, and to give you the necessary help to fulfill your assignment and purpose in destiny. This is the idea in God’s mind when he instituted marriage and ensure that your marriage fulfills this idea in the mind of God so that God’s name will be glorified on your account.
It’s my prayer that your marriage will bring glory to the name of the Lord. Your spouse will not be a terror to you but help you fulfill God’s purpose for your life, you will be a suitable help to your spouse, and the Lord will give you a suitable companion in the name of Jesus. I pray you will not be wrongly married in life, marriage will not stress you, it won’t make you bitter, and it won’t be hell on earth. The Lord be with you, your home, your children, and your future in all you do in Jesus’ name. Amen.
