It is no longer News that Upcoming Gospel Artistes believes they are being trampled on by the “Big Fish” in the industry.
This led to a statement made by Gift Dennis, saying that Big and established artiste are not the problem rather the real problem is the insecurity, competition and jealousy that happens among emerging artiste themselves.
During an interview session between Oluwapelumi and Gift Dennis, the Gospel minister shared her thoughts on this Cliche.
Excerpts Below:
Presenter: Please can you tell me your name, what you do, is music your full time Job and if you are married??
Gift Dennis: My name is Gift Dennis, I do music for part time and I am into business.
Sure! I am married
Presenter: Why do upcoming artistes believe they are not doing well because the big ones are not stepping down and if they step down do you think the emerging artistes will make wave??
Gift Dennis: The Big ones are not the problem of the upcoming at all. They can’t step down or stop releasing songs and doing concert just for the upcoming.
The upcoming problems is within them and their environment.
Too much insecurity, competition and jealousy that happens among upcoming artistes themselves and many of these begin right within the church choir system.
The upcoming can only make waves if they deal with their problems and maintain God’s timing for their calling or gifts
Presenter: Many emerging and up coming artistes despite their talents are not doing well, What do you think the problem or the challenges could have been?
Gift Dennis: Yeah, it is true that no one is an Island, it takes collective supports where necessary to become an Island.
What I am trying to say;
This artist started from some where which is the church or Church Choir!
Sometimes, assist and support is not all about money, but right encouragements from Families and friends is a enough support for these artists.
But what do we see today, Choir members against their own fellow brother or sister out of jealously and competition. Instead of supporting their own by singing his/her song in their local church and sharing their songs to friends and families….. They will rather sing other top artist songs because of jealously, insecurity… Etc.
Some will even criticized the song of their fellow choir member who is an artist and running him/her down.
What about the church that this artist is coming from, where he/she has sacrifices all her time and talent……where the pastor can not announce the artist songs to the church or encourage the artist in any other way fits.
If the artist is not getting encouraged from is own people, tell me how will he/she get up there despite his/her hard work.
Its only takes God’s grace and determination for all upcoming facing such an issue today to become their dreams.
Presenter: There are many budding artistes In the church, particularly among the choir, do you think the church/ choir members have important roles to play, so they can be successful??
Gift Dennis: When you say budding, you mean artist that disburse their fellow Choir members and church for assist?
If that’s what you mean, I don’t think the choir and the church owe him/her any support.
You don’t Budd people all in the name of assistance. You are among the choir and the Church for crying out loud…..they are seeing all you are doing, all your efforts and as soon as you releases your work, they know.
So, its left for them to show you support which is the right thing for them to do, not you budding them.
Them being successful lies in their ability to trust God, themselves, be determined, focused and consistent in all they do.
I know one day, their hard work will pay-off!!
Presenter: Do you think the church and it members is enough to make the emerging artistes great or there is a need to look up or found favour among the successful one??
Gift Dennis: The church and its members is not enough, but it will go a long way for grassroot support.
When I say an emerging artist needs determination, focus and consistent towards his/her dream. I mean he/she needs to look outwards, step out, engage, collaborate with both top and middle..(if I should use that). He/she should know that success is Grace & Favour, but he/she needs to be in the right place and do the right thing to obtain the necessary Grace and favour that is apportioned for his/her success!!
Presenter: What role do you think the successful one should play to see that the emerging ones become successful?
Gift Dennis: Their only role is mentorship that’s if the emerging ones has them as their mentor.
Presenter: What advice will you give to an up coming artistes??
Gift Dennis: These are my advice to all upcoming and emerging Artists;
* They should trust God, themselves and have a strong believe/faith that they will be successful.
* They should Kill Jealousy, Competition spirit and insecurity among themselves.
* They should be determine, focused and consistent towards their calling.
* They should be prayerful and seek God’s direction in every step they take.
* They should look out for a mentor, it is very important towards perfection!!
