Topic: A Call to Leadership
Text: Judges 5:7

The inhabitants of the villages ceased, they ceased in Israel,
Until that, I Deborah arose, That I arose a mother in Israel.

There are several situations in life calling for leadership, seeking someone to stand in the gap of a leader to solve the problems bedevilling the society. Leaders ceased until Deborah arose. God is always waiting for someone to take responsibility for leadership, to fulfill the purpose and counsel of God over his life for the people. Leadership is the ability to solve problems and the individual who solves the problem becomes the leader. David arose, solved the problem of Goliath of Gath, and became a leader.

When do you become a leader?
You become a leader when you gain mastery of yourself. Leadership begins with the ability to conquer, master, lead, or discipline oneself. You become a leader when you conquer the desires of your flesh and get going, it could even be in the issue of sleep, excessive sleep. Many people are led by their appetite and have no control over themselves.

You become a leader when you develop a vision for yourself, your organization, your family, and life generally. Direction is a major characteristic of leadership. A leader must have a clear picture of the destination he is headed to take others along with him. A man merely exists rather than live without a vision. Your existence began when you were born but you cease to live till vision or purpose is discovered or developed. Habakkuk 2:1-2

You become a leader when you think, talk, and act like one. 1 Corinthians 13:11, leadership has to do with maturity, growth, and development mentally and spiritually. This makes you think, talk, and act like a leader. So many are in leadership positions who are not leaders. Listening to them exposes the folly in them. The Bible says even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace and he that shuts his lips is esteemed a man of understanding. it is better to be quiet and considered wise than to speak and clear all doubts.

You become a leader when you accept responsibility for results. Few are willing to take responsibility. Adam refused to accept responsibility for failure. The instruction not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was given to him, his wife ate the fruit and shared it with him, and he ate as well. When God called out for him, he passed the blame to his wife. Leaders don’t shift responsibilities or blame on others. Little children do not take responsibility for anything in the home. Accepting responsibility is a hallmark of leadership. Many fail in life and pass the blame on their parents. No parent is responsible for the outcome of a child. Everyone is responsible for their outcome in life.

Prayer Focus
1. Father, give me the grace to gain mastery of my life and destiny. I refuse to surrender the leadership of my life to pleasure, lust, and my appetite. I gain mastery over myself with the help of the Holy Spirit. I gain mastery over my appetite in the name of Jesus.
2. Father, let my vision speak eloquently in the name of Jesus.
3. Father, give me the grace to think, talk, and act like a leader, help me to grow to maturity.
4. Father, I accept responsibility for the results of my life and destiny.
