Text: Proverbs 17:17

We don’t lose friends as we grow older, we just learn who the real friends are. Friends love through all kinds of weather. Not everyone who claims to be your friend is truly one. Some are fair-weather friends, They hang around you when they are okay for their convenience and disappear when things change. People are not around you for your sake but for their sake. The people hailed Jesus as long as he gave them bread to eat. When he gave them his flesh and blood, many left him including some disciples. You know your true friends in tough times. There are people who need your shoulders to climb to the next level and will eventually push you down when they get there. This is how people are wired.

Those saying “Hossana” today may be the ones shouting “crucify him” tomorrow. Families stick together and won’t abandon each other. Your family are your first fans but there are also household enemies, Matthew 10:36. Your worst enemies could be the people closest to you. Be ready for disappointment from those you regard as friends. Never blame people for disappointing you, blame yourself for expecting too much. People will always remain people. Everyone is around you for a beneficiary relationship with you. Matthew 7:21, Not everyone who calls Jesus Lord is truly a friend of Jesus, his friends are those who obey his will. Jesus did not depend lavishly on people, do likewise. He would have been disappointed if he lavishly depended on Peter, James, John, and Judas Iscariot. You must show yourself friendly if you must have friends. People may leave your life as you grow older, it is natural and you should not pick an offence. You need to understand that their season or reason in your life is over. Don’t drag relationships of the past seasons into new seasons. Lot tagged along with Abraham and Abraham remained hurt until they went their separate ways.
