Topic: Duties and Necessities of a Believer
Text: Colossians 1:3-6

Paul identified 2 duties of a believer. The first is thanksgiving, Isaiah 43:21, God desires our thanksgiving and praise. Praise is the password to God’s presence. We are to praise and acknowledge God daily for the benefits bestowed on us. The second duty is prayer. Believers are to pray always, especially the prayer of intercession. Philippians 4:6-7.

Paul highlighted 3 necessities in the believer’s walk with God
1. Faith in Christ Jesus. Faith is a major currency of exchange in the Kingdom of God. It is required to get anything from God. We exchange our faith for God’s blessings and promises. Hebrews 11:6, faith is a rewarder and we cannot please God without faith. Hebrews 11:33, we obtain promises by faith. Your faith in Christ must be unwavering and firm. Abraham did not stagger at the promise of God through unbelief. He believed God could raise Isaac from the dead. You cannot quench the fiery darts of the wicked without faith

2. Love. Your faith is towards Christ while your life is for mankind. You must have love for mankind. It is not lust and does not take advantage of others. Lust gratifies the self at the expense of others. The reverse is the case for love. God loved and He gave. You must have love for the brethren. You cannot be in Christ and not love people unconditionally.

3. Hope. You must have hope in Christ, in this world and beyond. The hope of eternal life is laid up in heaven. Hope keeps you going amid difficulties and challenges. We are hopeful that there’s a treasure laid up in heaven for us, our future is in the hands of God. We are hopeful that Jesus ascended, he’s sat at the right hand of God making intercessions for us, and is coming back to take us home by death or rapture, whichever comes first.

Prayers
1. Father, increase and strengthen my faith in you, let my faith in you be strong and unwavering.
2. Father, I ask for your blessings, miracles, and visitation that will strengthen my faith in you.
3. Father, let my love for the brethren be genuine.
4. Father, do not let my hope be deferred, visit me and grant my expectations, and let your name be glorified. Amen.
