Topic: The Breaking Point (Contd.)
Text: 2 Samuel 12:10
David submitted to the dictates and desires of the flesh at his breaking point. He was a man after God’s heart and the sweet psalmist of Israel. He caved in when his flesh dominated over him. He took in Uriah’s wife and killed him. Prophet Nathan pronounced God’s judgment on him for the evil he committed. He lacked the strength to say no to the dictates of the flesh. The consequences of his fall were so enormous that the sword would not depart from his house (all for a short time of pleasure). Be careful what you do, no man falls alone. There are so many destinies connected to yours, waiting for your emergence, Romans 8:19, Your manifestation will help others manifest. It would be best if you did not fail for the sake of posterity. His son did worse than he did to Bathsheba and Uriah, he slept with his father’s concubines in the open, whereas David’s error was committed in the closet, David’s sons killed each other. There was trouble in his house.
You must never make permanent decisions in temporary conditions and take steps that would lead to eternal consequences, you must never do what will leave a bitter pill for posterity. Always think about your posterity. What impact would you leave behind? Leave a good name for posterity and your generation unborn. Genesis 39:10, David refused to succumb to the request of Potiphar’s wife because of posterity. He refused to sin against God. His major restraint was his vision and dream of greatness. Stand strong for your vision. Don’t cave in. Don’t forfeit the ultimate for the immediate. Don’t allow immediate gratification to deny you of your ultimate glorification. Esau settled for immediate at the expense of the ultimate when he sold his birthright for a plate of porridge. The Edomites became a slave to the children of Israel, because of a plate of porridge. Leave a good name for your children, a good name is an inheritance. Don’t follow after David, Reuben, and Achan who brought their children into trouble. May the Lord help you in the name of Jesus. Amen.
Prayer Focus
1. Father, in your name, I will not bring shame and disgrace upon my family.
2. Father, strengthen me in every area of weakness and give me the grace to overcome myself and my weaknesses.
3. Father, help me to live a life worthy of emulation. Please help me to leave a good name and godly inheritance for my children.
