Topic: The thing (Dream) is gone from me
Text: Daniel 2:5

The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.

A man is born naked but not empty. He is born with a clenched fist holding on to his dreams. Growing up, every young boy is a medical doctor, a lawyer, an astronaut, an engineer, etc. As he grows, certain things begin to take his dream from him.

What can make a man’s dream go from him?
1. His background: 1 Samuel 9:21
And Saul answered and said, Am not I a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? and my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? wherefore then speakest thou so to me?
Saul gave an account of his background recognizing that he came from the least and the least of least. Every dream could be taken by your background if caution is not applied. Every great person has a bigger dream compared to his background. Few men have replicated the success of their background. The common trend observed is that many people from successful homes waste the wealth or success transferred to them. This was observed with Rehoboam who was bequeathed with 12 tribes of Israel. He could not sustain it because of his foolishness. So many people have allowed their humble backgrounds to take away their dreams from them. Do not allow your background to limit you from pursuing your dreams, rather, your background should motivate you to do better than your fathers. Do not allow a negative family background to take your dream from you. Your humble beginning should not take away your dream from you. Your dream will be bigger than your background and ability if its origin is God. Absolute dependence on God is essential for such dreams to come to reality. Joseph’s second dream was greater than his background, the dream exceeded his family name, parents, and background. Let your background enhance the big picture rather than limit it. I desired to study law at the university but I was told no one had a university degree in my family and there were no resources to go to school. I did not allow this background to take away my dream. The dream possessed me. I was unwilling to give up on the dream and went out to work to purchase a JAMB form. Thank God for assistance from my friends and siblings around me. It was easy for interpreters of dreams to come to help me fulfil my dream because I did not give up on my dreams. Do not let your background stop you. I don’t believe yours can stop you since mine did not stop me.

2. Opposition: 1 Corinthians 16:9
For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.
The journey to the dreamland of the Israelites had barely started when opposition surfaced. The Red Sea stood before them and some lost their dream right there intending to return to Egypt. Moses encouraged the children of Israel to stand still and see the salvation of their God. God said to Moses, why do you cry to me? tell the children of Israel to go forward. When faced with opposition, all you need do is to press on, Opposition is proof that God is involved in your dream and that it is a very great dream. An unopposed dream lacks weight and uniqueness. The greater your dream, the greater the opposition you face. 12 spies were sent into the Land of Canaan and they saw the land as God had spoken and brought the fruits of the land but 10 out of 12 men gave up their dreams because of the opposition they faced (giants). Be like Caleb and Joshua who did not allow opposition to take their dream from them. The opposition will soon fade away. Go forward despite the Opposition and the Lord will see you through in Jesus’ name.

Prayer Focus
1. Father, take me beyond the limits of my background and father’s house by the power of your spirit.
2. Father, I break through every opposition. I refuse to give up my dreams because of opposition. I command every opposition to be subdued before me in the precious name of Jesus.
3. Father, I convert every opposition, every stumbling block to a stepping stone to my miracle. Let everything out to stop me, help me to arrive at where I am going.
