Topic: The weightier Matters
Text: Acts 6:2-4

The Pharisees and the scribes were quick to pay their tithes and offerings but neglected the weightier matters of the Law. The weightier matters include issues of judgement, mercy and faith, ie fairness or equity, compassion and commitment.

Weightier matters should be given more attention however, more attention is given to less weighty things. Some things are weightier and require more attention but that doesn’t mean attention shouldn’t be given to matters with less weight. It only means that there’s a need for prioritisation.

Devotion should be given more attention than activities. In this age, we are full of activities at the expense of our devotion. People spend so much time on activities without spending time in God’s presence. You have no right to stand before men on God’s behalf till you have stood before God on men’s behalf. Your personal devotion is very important. That is where your ministry flows from. Your ministry is an overflow of your personal relationship with God. What you do for God is not as important as who you are to him. God is more interested in having a robust fellowship with you than all you do in the house of God. Paul always advised his sons to take heed and ensure that their spiritual life is not malnourished. Always spend time praying before carrying out any activity.

The content should be given more attention than the container. More attention should be given to what you have inside than your appearance. It’s good to look good but doing good is more important than looking good. Create more time for your substance than your appearance. Acts 3, Peter and John gave the lame man from their substance. Make your person acceptable to people but pay more attention to your substance.

The process should be given more attention than the product. What and where you are, are not as important as the process that got you there. You can’t compromise to succeed and expect a good success. We do not agree with the statement that says “the end justifies the means”. The end is very important but the means is much more important

Prayer Focus
1. Father, I receive the grace to pay attention to the weightier matters, help me to pay me attention to my substance than appearance.
2. Father let my results,  accomplishments in life and the process glorify your name in the name of Jesus.
3. Father, give me the grace to pay more attention to the things that matter, to the weightier matters.
4. Father, I refuse to end this year empty, give me something great to show.
